Facility Information
Cottage Lake was built in 1958 on 10 acres. The school facilities were expanded in 1963 and in 1968. A new grass field replaced the original playground in 1986. The school underwent a basic-needs renovation in 1987, and a technology retrofit occurred in 1991 and 1995.
Phase One of the Buildings and Site Modernization Project was completed in 1999. This phase included a new gymnasium, administration building, four new classrooms, and a multi-purpose room that serves as a cafeteria for lunch serving.
Phase Two, completed in 2005, included sixteen classrooms, library and computer lab. Cottage Lake embraced the sustainable design features of natural ventilation, day-lighting, and a low impact design for storm water infiltration called rain gardens. The project won a competitive grant for $310,000 from the State Board of Education and the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction for its role as a pilot project for the Washington Sustainable School Protocol. During its first year of occupancy, the staff was active in learning the new expectations and procedures that support the integration of sustainable design features.
Before and after school day care is provided through the YMCA.
Our twenty classrooms are in use daily for students. The gym, cafeteria, and playfield are used extensively in the evenings and on weekends for special community events.
