Welcome to Cottage Lake's Developmental Preschool Program

Our three Contained Learning Center (CLC) Preschool classes at Cottage Lake serve students with special needs three to five years of age. Our preschool program provides opportunities for children to learn through a variety of experiences based on their individual developmental needs. Preschool staff includes certified early childhood special education teachers, paraprofessionals, speech and language pathologist, physical and occupational therapists.

We address all developmental areas, including social/emotional, adaptive, communication, cognition and physical skills through a literacy-based curriculum. Each student has an individualized education plan (IEP), developed by staff and parents, which targets specific areas of need and helps to differentiate instruction based on individual student needs. Our goal is to provide our children with the foundation and confidence to be successful in the next step of their education. The curriculum is designed to encourage kindergarten readiness skills while allowing children to explore their environment and materials at their own pace. Children are encouraged to try new things and make age appropriate decisions.

We work closely with parents to ensure that we provide an effective learning environment, and work with parents and other staff to ensure a smooth transition into a variety of kindergarten programming options within the district. Opportunities to engage in meaningful interactions with typically developing peers are provided through peer model students.
